No two sessions look exactly the same, because every child’s plan is tailored to their unique needs and goals. In general, sessions are play-based and engaging, so children feel like they’re having fun while working on important skills. A session may include activities to build fine motor skills (such as games that involve grasping, cutting, or writing), gross motor skills (like climbing, obstacle courses, or balance challenges), or sensory processing (exploring movement, textures, or calming strategies). Therapists also work on self-care and daily living skills, such as feeding, dressing, or using tools independently.
Parents are often invited to observe or participate, and at the end of each session, we provide feedback, strategies, and “carryover” ideas to support progress at home and school. Our goal is to make therapy enjoyable, functional, and meaningful—helping children grow in confidence and independence with every visit.

The frequency of therapy depends on your child’s individual needs and goals. After the initial evaluation, we’ll recommend a plan that may include weekly sessions, multiple sessions per week, or a consultation model with periodic check-ins. Some children benefit from short-term, focused support, while others may need ongoing therapy to build skills over time. We’ll work closely with you to find a schedule that supports your child’s progress while fitting into your family’s routine.
The initial evaluation is our first step in getting to know your child and understanding their unique strengths and challenges. During this session, the therapist will talk with you about your concerns, your child’s history, and your goals for therapy. We’ll also complete a combination of play-based activities, structured tasks, and standardized assessments to look at areas such as fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, and attention.
At the end of the evaluation, we’ll share our observations with you, discuss whether occupational therapy is recommended, and outline a plan of care tailored to your child’s needs. This is also a great time for you to ask questions and learn strategies you can begin using at home right away.
The length of time a child spends in therapy is different for everyone and depends on their individual needs, goals, and progress. Some children benefit from just a few months of focused therapy, while others may need longer-term support to build skills gradually over time. After the initial evaluation, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan and regularly review your child’s progress with you. Together, we’ll decide when goals have been met and when it may be appropriate to decrease frequency or discharge from therapy. Our goal is always to provide the right amount of support—long enough to make meaningful progress, but never longer than your child truly needs.
